Obie Trice changes his direction

With a new album titled “Bottoms Up” in the works, and changes in his artistic direction, Obie Trice has one goal- making the transition to the mainstream. He’s even employed the help of former Suave House and current Clipse manager Tony Draper.
“I’m in the makings with him about doing some management [for me]...We working some things out. It’s a good look. He knows a lot of people and knows how to move things around. He’s been out here for a minute, so that’s a good look as far as I go. I’m just trying to branch out and get in this game correctly.” he added.

“I don’t really know a lot of artists — I’m in Detroit…It’s not Atlanta, where everybody is everywhere, or L.A. or somewhere like that. I actually think it’s time for me to start branching off and start connecting with cats. Getting my collaboration on and working with some hot producers — unknown and known — and just make them joints that feel good and that are radio. I just want to make that transition.”

50 Cent Responds to Cam'ron: "I'm Waiting for the Summer",

After appearing on BET’s 106 & Park last week, tensions between 50 Cent and Cam’ron surfaced once again after 50 implied that Cam’ron had gone into hiding since his incident with Tru Life. To no-one’s surprise, Cam’ron was quick to respond, as he posted a video on the internet from a supposed vacation home, taunting 50 in his boxer shorts, claiming that it was going to be a hot summer for all rappers from the NYC.
In an interview with MTV News this past Monday (May 21), 50 Cent came forward and explained his thoughts on Cam’ron’s latest video, and his general feelings on Cam’ron and the Dipset Camp.

“It doesn’t make sense,” he said. “For him to shoot a video message in front of his pool in underwear, it doesn’t make sense. I think he’s delusional. For him to make any financial reference, being in the financial space he’s in and where I’m at financially, doesn’t make sense. He’s just upset, he’s angry.

50 went on to explain: “He’s mad because he knows the perception of him and his situation. He’s doing more damage to his crew than I could ever do. He’s put them in a real awkward situation with his choices. When they had momentum, they had Jimmy out there doing records, Juelz was out there, they was doing good. Then they let this guy out there and look what happened. It’s gonna be a ‘hot summer.’ What is he talking about? I’m waiting for the summer.”

In reference to Cam’ron’s “Curtis” name-calling tirades, 50 explained: “He’s delusional. For a person to think that calling you the name your mom gave you at birth is disrespectful is beyond belief. He’s punished himself more than I can punish him. He’s made a fool of himself. There’s nobody asking me about Cam’ron. I think people lost interest in it, based on the situation. He’s not even relevant. You’re talking about a guy who sold 270,000 [copies] his last record. I sold 9.8 million my last record. I’m not going to exhaust my audience by talking about somebody they have no interest in.”

As of now, no statements regarding 50’s interview with MTV have been issued by Cam’ron.

On May 22nd Celeste Williams, a former employee of Jay-Z’s highly successful 40/40 club filed a lawsuit against the club on her and other employees behalf. The suit claims that “Jay-Z and co-owner Juan Perez of willfully failing and refusing to pay them at the legally required minimum wage for all hours worked and time and a half rates for work in excess of forty hours per work-week.”
An attorney for Williams states that other employees refuse to speak up due to fear of retaliation. On the other side, club spokesman Ron Berkowitz said “That certainly is not true.” “Everyone makes the minimum wage at the club, 100%.

Busta Settles in Assault Suit
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
On Monday (May 21), Busta Rhymes reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed against him by a man who says he was assaulted by the rapper and his bodyguard in a Manhattan deli in 2005. According to the New York Post, Busta reached the agreement just one day before he was due in Manhattan Supreme Court to defend himself to Justice Emily Jane Goodman against a default judgment that was handed down in the case last year. Melvin Smith, who claims to have been beaten by the controversial rapper, was awarded $100,000 after Busta failed to respond to the suit. The rapper explained that he was unaware of the case because he did not reside at the Long Island home where a process server delivered the related legal papers. “While I own the property, I have no access to it,” Busta said in an affidavit filed recently. He explained that the Baldwin, Long Island home is a residence that he provides for his three children and their mother. He also asserted that he did not assault Smith. The details of the settlement were not revealed.

Two Companies Representing Eminem’s Management Sue Aftermath, Interscope over Digital Download Revenue

On Monday (May 21), two management companies that represent Eminem filed suit against Aftermath Records, Interscope Records, Universal Music Group Recordings and ARY Inc. claiming they are owed revenue from digital downloads of the rapper’s music. According to The Tennessean, Detroit based F.B.T. Productions LLC and Em2M LLC say they are entitled to a 50% share of any revenue generated from downloads of Em’s music, but are currently receiving only a 12% cut. An audit that was completed in February estimates that the two companies were owed $650,000, and that amount has now reached $1 million. “We are bringing this action based upon the specific language of our contracts with UMG,” said attorney Richard Busch of Nashville law firm King & Ballow, who are representing Em’s management team. According to the suit, which was filed in Los Angeles federal court, the parties are seeking a court order confirming their right to 50% of money earned from digital downloads and ringtone sales, as well as compensation for lost revenue.

Kanye speaks on new tour, other projects

No dates have been set yet, but according to MTV, superstar rapper Kanye West’s new tour will be called “Glow In The Dark”. As the follow-up to his successful Touch the sky tour, Ye plans to go outside the box once again.

He also plans to change it up graphically as well, as he’s been seen hanging with Japanese art legend Takashi Murakami. Takashi, most well known for his Louis Vuitton rainbow design, will be handling the bulk of designs for Kanye’s upcoming album, and has done the cover for Ye’s latest single, “Can’t Tell Me Nothin”. Apparently, Murakami is also the mind behind Wests new chain-charm as well.
“He did a three-minute animated piece for one of the songs.” said Kanye. “Murakami, his work has been stunning to me because pop art is really expressive, representative and expressive and emotional, and it looks like something you can do yourself. [But] you cannot do no Murakami shit yourself. You cannot do this at home. He has this studio out in Japan that has 30 artists working at one time. I love Japanese culture and I was always into art, and Murakami is really a god in the art world.”

“I’ve heard people come up to him and say, ‘You’re becoming more godlike every day,’ ” added West. “Every single that’s coming out for my album, he did the artwork for the covers. ... And all the merchandising for the new album is Murakami.”

West is not only working on finishing “Graduation”, but he is also collaborating with New Orleans artist Lil Wayne for his next Lp “Tha Carter 3”.

“I’m making beats. The dude is the hottest rapper,” ‘Ye said of Weezy. “We already made some songs that are incredible. I’m not going to tell you who’s on them, but I can talk my sh—, ‘cause we already got a couple of bangers under the belt. Hopefully I can deliver some product with him to push it to MTV even more, where hopefully he’ll be opening up some award shows and getting his rightful spot.

“Right now he’s ripping down every mixtape, going crazy with it. It’s unabashed, raw lyrics. I think it’s the realest form of hip-hop right now.”
